Interpretation Panels

Each interpretation panel was printed in high-resolution enamelled aluminium. This made them highly durable in the harsh environment, where there would be subjected to cold, rain, ice and all that nature could throw at them.

Illustrations

Each interpretation panel itself comprised illustrations depicting the Roman activities at Dolaucothi Goldmines. These were based on archaeological research, working with the Dyfed Archaeological Trust. Illustrations were used extensively to bring to life the historical methods used by the Romans to extract the gold.

Installation

The oak frames were individually designed & constructed for the project. As they were installed on 'scheduled land', procedures had to be followed, including having an archaeologist on site and tamping (no cement used).

Mapping

All the panels had clear mapping explaining where you are and they key story being told at that point.

If following with the audio trail, the maps gave clear instructions on which audio was most relevant to the location...

Panel Graphics

The bi-lingual panels were extensively researched with collaboration with the Dyfed Archaeological Trust. All copy was written from this collaborative research, telling the complete story of this extraordinary achievement in Roman times in Carmarthenshire.

The slideshow below contains all the project's interpretation panels...
